The sun-drenched, empty hills of the Indonesian island captivate with its harsh beauty. For a young widow who lives alone, however, this is not a safe place. When several bandits knock on her door, no one will hear a cry for help. Do not expect that in the morning a woman will leave the house with the head of one of them wrapped in a piece of cloth.
The director intriguingly combines the convention of an intelligent western with an intimate drama, complementing it with a documentary flair and a sarcastic sense of humor. It perfectly controls the form - panoramic frames are hypnotizing, and the light used in them is a nod to Caravaggio. The widow's figure was inspired by the observation of women living on the island, but the rhythmical scenario gives it a mythological character.
